Like many college football players, UW-Eau Claire junior center Devon Disrude gradually had to work his way into the starting lineup. However, Disrude faced a much bigger obstacle than most players. One morning during spring break in 2001, Disrude went to a doctor in his hometown of Milton to check on a pain he was having in his abdomen.

The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team knew going into Wednesday's game against UW-River Falls that it was a big one. The Blugolds got the upset win at McPhee, beating the fifth-ranked Falcons in four games, and netting the 700th career victory for coach Lisa Herb.

The UW-Eau Claire men's soccer club celebrated its 25th anniversary at the 18th annual alumni game by hosting a game in which current and past players dueled Sunday at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center. "The game is more for the alumni than for the team, but it was a fun game for both," senior David Webb said.

It has to be destiny. The Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox seem to be on course to meet in the World Series, and I can't think of any other word than destiny. The long struggles suffered by the Cubs and Red Sox are well documented - the two teams combined to win seven of the first 15 World Series, but neither has won one since.

Blugolds take first WIAC win

Junior Kiley Zellner led the Blugolds to a 3-0 victory over UW-River Falls Wednesday at Bollinger Field by doing most of the work toward a hat trick in the first half-hour of the game. The first goal came off passes from senior Kacie Fry and sophomore Marcia Foltz.
