Wendy McCarron, who graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1992, won a national Milken Educator Award, which comes with a $25,000 award.
Now teaching mathematics at Northview High School in Duluth, Ga., McCarron was one of 75 educators nationwide to receive the award on March 30 in Los Angeles, Ca.
Dwight C. Watson, associate dean of the teacher education program in the College of Education and Human Sciences at UW-Eau Claire, describes the Milken Award as the "highest honor in education."
McCarron has helped improve instruction across various grade levels in the Duluth school district. She helped the district receive the highest SAT levels in the state in 2006. McCarron co-wrote a book on teaching strategies for geometry.
Milken Educator Awards represent the largest teacher recognition program in the U.S., having recognized over 2,300 exceptional educators with over $58 million in awards.
McCarron is the second UW-Eau Claire graduate to receive a Milken award in recent years. In 2003, 1987 graduate James Doucette, received the honor. In 2004, he also received a UW-Eau Claire Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award.
