System looks at behavior away from campus

Abstract:
In response to concerns from neighborhood associations near several UW campuses, the UW System formed a committee to take a look at its student conduct code, which has some in the Eau Claire area concerned.
Kate Dixon, university relations specialist for the UW System, said the System has created a committee of staff representatives and students to look at the possibility of allowing universities to hold students accountable for their off-campus behavior....

It's illegal, what a student does off campus isn't the campus's buisness. It'd be like the University saying,"Hey because you invented that invention while going to shcool here it belongs to us."

The University can not, and should not, over step their bounds. What next, if a student goes home and has a drink with their dad or mom, the schools going to suspend them for it? On campus, fine, off campus, its none of their damned buisness.

I forgot a point; Students are individuals, period. Just because they're attending a college doesn't change this fact. The college has no obligation in correcting what a student does once they're off campus. Nor should the university have any authority over a student once they have left the campus. Punishing a student for an event off campus by the university, is completely absurd, regardless of if other colleges are doing it.
