Okay, so for several weeks you've had this technical difficulty and apparently don't have the expertise to fix it.

However, I don't understand why it matters that your "top story" doesn't link to the email subject line.

Can't you manually insert a headline into the email subject line instead of week after week sending out "Spectatornews.com experiences technical difficulties" as the email subject line?

I realize you're not highly paid professionals, but keeping the same subject line every week really makes you look like brain dead amateurs.

Emily -- You're right. "Brain dead" was a bit harsh.

I'm a UW-EC alumnus living in NC, so I appreciate receiving an email every week with a link to the online Spectator. The email's subject line usually is -- or, at least has been for the past several years -- the Spectator's top article headline.

Apparently, on Sept. 15 something went wrong, and the headline of a commentary ("Palin not a qualified candidate") was the email subject line. As you probably know, that drew a lot of fire. Every week since then the email subject line has been "Spectatornews.com experiences technical difficulties"

The first week, that was understandable. The second week, it was still sort of okay. The third week in a row that showed up, Oh, come on now!!! These are bright college students who grew up with computers, and no one at the University can figure out how to override the system and place a real headline in the email subject line until the "technical difficulties" are resolved? Don't they take any pride in their product? Are they.......... Ooops, I'm getting worked up again.

I was going to use the word unprofessional in my first post, but I suppose one can't call people who are not paid professionals "unprofessional." So, brain dead amateurs came to mind. At any rate I believe re-using the same "...technical difficulties" subject line week after week reflects poorly on the Spectator staff, the Department, and the University. I'm sure that email is sent to addressees around the world.

I'm hoping next week's email from the Spectator will have a real headline in the subject line and not, "Spectatornews.com experiences technical difficulties" yet again.

We'll see.
