42 apply for calendar spots

Abstract:
The votes came in from all over the country last week for the women people wanted to see in the third annual Eau Claire swimsuit calendar.

Forty-two women had their photos on a Facebook event page in hopes of drawing votes and being chosen as one of the 17 models for this year's calendar, titled "College QTs of EC....

bad idea

posted 9/24/07 @ 11:57 AM CST

This is a bad idea for two reasons:

1. it does objectify women. Do you think men are buying this to support cancer? No, they are buying it to look at your body. This isn't harmless, as stuff like this leads to men bugging, stalking, or even assaulting the models. You are putting your body out there for all to see. I am a man- take it from me- men are not harmless, fuzzy little creatures who are sweet and cuddly. We are nice up front, until the opportunity arises to release our evil thoughts. Most of us can't control our sexual urges and many don't want to. By posing 3/4 naked you are encouraging us to objectify you in our demonic minds.

2. just because it is "for cancer" doesn't make it good. Have a bake sale, or a rummage sale, or a book sale, NOT a body sale. "Nunn said that the most important thing was that money was being raised to fight cancer". So anything goes as long as it is for cancer? Why not start a big prostitution ring or sell drugs as long as all the money goes towards fighting cancer. The ends do not always justify the means.

Get together with a company that promotes the Pink Breast cancer drive or anything like that. This is a bad idea, which just attaches the "for cancer" label to it to help it sell. Treat your body like it was meant to be treated. Not as an object to help entertain bad thoughts that lead to sin. Treat it as a gift from its creator.

Don't buy the calendar.

I would honestly say if you have an issue where you can't control your 'demons' as you say, then don't buy the calendar. Not every male has an issue with being able to control their 'demonic' urges. Many men are able to look at the beauty of women and see them for their beauty, both inside and out.

As far as the means not being justified. I can think of many things that could be done worse. If you really want to go further with that... maybe we shouldn't be 'auctioning' men as a fundraiser. Women also do have 'evil desires' trust me, I know many who do. So, then we should all not get creative and try to find unique ways to raise money for a good cause.

I do want to say this. The women in the calendar have chosen to be involved. They were voted on by over 600 people, men and women alike. From what I know, the photographers have said they do want to make the shoots a little more 'classy'.

"Treat your body like it was meant to be treated. Not as an object to help entertain bad thoughts that lead to sin. Treat it as a gift from its creator."

My question to the person that wrote this. Do you treat your body the way it was meant at all times. If that was true, I wonder what you eat, how often? I wonder if you work out. I wonder if you drink soda (caffeine isn't good for you with sugar) . There are many things you wrote in here. Also... do you take your shirt off in the day when it's hot? You probably shouldn't as a male. it could make others stumble, both of the hetero and homosexual fashion. It's obvious to me that you are a Christian... realize not everyone carries the same values as you.. but before you judge, look at your own behaviors first!

You said.."Don't buy the calendar." You have every right and power not to. By all means... but allow others to make their choice also. Isn't that the best thing, even the 'creator' gave us the power of choice!

bad idea- part deux

Yes, everyone involved is totally free to be. No one is being forced into it, I agree. What I worry about is young women making decisions at an age when most are naive, thinking all of human nature to be kind and sweet. Afterall, who would take this and use it in any not so sweet way? Men- that's who. Doesn't anybody check statistics on rape and assault anymore. These are just the type of girls that evil men are looking for (young and beautiful). Hollywood, magagzines, and our culture have created an era where men lust for just this type of girl. I'm not speaking negatively about the girls, I find the female body to be awesomely beautiful. But even the best intentioned males will set this beside a playboy, or internet porn, or videos as their homage to women. It is neither pure nor sweet the way that men view women.

You can ramble on all day about how that's just some men. But that isn't true- it's most men, and these women are putting themselves out there for eternity in a published work. Once it is printed, it is forever. And I think my point is also proven by the fact that sales of the male calendar are nowhere near the level of the female one. Women are much less likely to use these things in an evil way, become obsessed with the "porn" aspect of it, and possibly act out on it with these women or someone else. You may think my opinion is wrong, but I know I am right about the view men take of these things as opposed to women. Hugh Heffner has proven that women can be talked into anything and do not fear their objectivication by their willingness to pander to this base form of entertainment.

Do so carefully women- these aren't a one time deal- men will be ogling you (among other things) for years to come. They will make assumptions about you based on the shoot and may act on them. Don't be naive, take care of yourself.

Would your future husband really want you to pose for this? Or don't you care about what your future husband would think of you now? Who knows, maybe he will see your picture in this calendar and begin a long stalking, whoops, I mean love affair with you.

Don't do it- Get out now- and don't buy it any men that hope that their future wife won't put their body out there on display for any loser that coughs up $20.

bad idea part three

ok... a few things about what you said....

1st... the men's calendar didn't do so well, as well as the women's calendar last year due to many things, rather than women just not wanting to buy it. One, the creators of the page had a late start, and didn't get to press on time. the calendar wasn't distributed until almost finals, whereas the previous year, it was way earlier! Also, there wasn't much advertising, etc. Another thing, many girls told me they "would have bought a men's calendar if the guys had more meat". That is the direct quote from several girls I talked to. The men's calendar was put together quite quickly. There are several MEN's Calendars that have outsold women's calendars nationally, read some statistics... so don't tell me women don't do this too!

2nd.. Many women in this age are not as naive as you would think! Women know when to say no! The calendar makers aren't going out and getting the women 'tipsy' before the shoots. they are doing this all on their own accord! No one approached them, no one said... You have to do this. The organizers put the info out and said if you want to, please sign up. I don't think there was any coersion, promises, or anything else. The women did that on their own accord! In this, you talk about Hefner. One thing, yes, that also spurs a lot of the women in his magazine... MONEY! The models of the calendar are NOT being paid.

Again, I think you highly downplay the sexual side of women, and that they can and do have a lot of urges and do also fantasize about men.

Like I said before.. If you don't want a calendar... I totally agree with your right to say NO. You have that choice. Other's also have their choice to buy, print, pose, etc for a calendar like this. As of right now, I say, we can agree to disagree. I know where you are coming from and can understand your position, but again, I stand on the fact tnat not all men have difficutly controlling themselves sexually.

By the way, it's interesting to me also, that a lot of the buyers of the magazine are women. 'nuff said.

Calendar needs a new name

Go away all you religious nuts. This calendar is awesome. I can't wait to get my hands on one. I should say HAND. I'll need to keep one free, if you know what I mean.

Does anyone know how many calendars were sold and if this calendar project even made any money this year?
