While this is rightfully a time for mourning the loss of April Englund, Amanda Jean Rief, and Scott Hams, I hope that students living in off-campus housing will also take a minute to check their smoke alarms. No, smoke alarms don't always save lives, but they often do.

If you can't reach your smoke alarm or aren't sure if it's functioning properly, please contact your landlord. I'm sure your landlord will be happy to check your alarm. I know that students lead busy lives and checking smoke alarms may not be a top priority, but please make it a priority today.
