Student Senate will employ a vacancy committee to fill six vacant positions including a directorship and executive officer, said Jodi Thesing-Ritter, associate dean of students.
The positions include the Academic Affairs Director, Parliamentarian, one on-campus and three off-campus senators. The former Academic Affairs Director, senior Aaron Wingad, also served as an off-campus senator.
Thesing-Ritter said it's normal for there to be vacancies at the change of a semester because of schedule changes, classes and internships.
"It's important to be flexible because students have exciting opportunities that we want them to be able to take advantage of," she said.
Student Senate President Michael Umhoefer said that students will be informed of the vacancies and have an opportunity to apply and sign up for interviews with the vacancies committee. He and vice-president Amber Bretl will appoint the directorship and executive position.
The committee is composed of the president, vice-president, one on-campus senator and one off- campus senator and a senator-at-large, he added. The committee will be appointed at the Senate meeting Sept. 9.
"Hopefully sometime soon, we'll be able to appoint them as senators," he said.
Thesing-Ritter said there is typically a good turnout of applicants to fill vacancies in Senate.
"I think students are eager to have a voice and use their voice," she said. "I think that's an exciting thing."
