The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team came up with a dominating 14-0 victory against UW-Superior late Wednesday afternoon.

"Overall I thought we played really well today," head coach Sean Yengo said. "We played quality soccer, and that was the No. 1 goal."

Eau Claire's superiority was evident early as the team opened the game pounding several shots. A cross came through the box and made it to the foot of sophomore Lisa Marco. Marco settled the ball and hit it off the crossbar before it slid in.

Four minutes went by before freshman Katie Richter netted her first goal of the game. After ten minutes passed, Richter had the Superior keeper charge her and was able to tap the ball in. The lead was at three after the pair of goals from Richter.

For a 15-minute span the Blugolds averaged a goal every three minutes, and it appeared like there was nothing the Yellowjackets could do to slow them down.

The lead increased in the 25th minute with a goal by freshman Shyla Gilbertson. Gilbertson had a breakaway opportunity and slid it past the keeper's arm right as she began to come out. The goal was the seventh of the year for Gilbertson, who leads the team.

A minute later junior Richelle Shannon scored the first of a pair of goals. It took her only three minutes to net the second, which brings her to a total of three goals on the year.

In the 39th minute junior Gina Christenbury received a cross that made it through the keeper's arms and was able to pound it into the goal for her first score of the game. Freshman Emily Alsheskie waited less than a minute before dribbling past several Yellowjacket defenders and crushing the ball into the net.

At halftime the Blugolds possessed an 8-0 lead and were in clear control of the game.

"I saw some casual moments in the first half," Yengo said. "I said, 'no casual moments, let's play good soccer,' and that was our halftime talk."
