Women's soccer ties, loses in weekend games
Blugolds play 218 minutes in less than a day

On Saturday the Blugolds faced the UW-Whitewater Warhawks and ended up with a 1-1 draw after the two extra periods. The game began with an early goal from the Warhawks, who got on the board less than a minute and 30 seconds into the game.
"I think we may have overlooked them a little bit and didn't come out like we talked about in our pre-game warm-up," said junior Gina Christenbury. "I think that hurt us and let them get the first goal right away."
Eau Claire didn't go away, and responded quickly with a goal from sophomore Lisa Marco just six minutes later. The score was the third of the year for Marco.
Freshmen Emily Alsheskie said the team goes by the motto 'the next five minutes,' referring to how crucial the five minutes after a goal scored can be for the momentum in a game.
"We realized we needed to give it all so we could get it back," Alsheskie said.
The score remained deadlocked between the conference foes for the next 83 minutes of regulation and the 30 minutes of overtime as well.
Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Kidd gave up the early goal, but was stout for the remainder of the game, picking up nine saves. Sophomore Alyssa Walker thought Kidd's play was key throughout the game.
"She had a phenomenal performance and made some big saves in times that we really needed it," Walker said. "It helped us keep going throughout the entire game."
Less than 24 hours later the team was forced to travel to another away site and take on the 13-0-1 Wartburg College (Iowa) Knights in a non-conference game. Alsheskie said there wasn't any lingering effects from the game the day before, and that the team addressed any concerns before kickoff.
"We had a big conversation in the morning and I think we were ready to go," Alsheskie said. "We talked about intensity, and we were really intense in the game. It was pretty evenly matched."
